A former Christian Brother who worked in St Patrick’s CBS National School in Tuam, Co. Galway, is the latest member of a religious or educational order to plead guilty of sexual assault of a minor.
On 15th March, 2022, the Irish Independent reported that the former teacher plead guilty to three sample charges of indecent assault against a well-known Galway publican. The former Christian Brother, of Castlerea, Co Roscommon, had the final seven months of his sentence suspended due to his guilty plea and ill health after he was convicted of the offences at Galway Circuit Court last December.
The plaintiff had initially taken a civil action against the Christian Brothers in 2009 and while the case was settled, the plaintiff did not receive an apology. The plaintiff, Paul Grealish, waived anonymity in order to identify his abuser and encourage others to come forward.
